About the Scheme

Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) is a scheme under the Ministry of Rural Development of the Government of India. In Meghalaya, it is implemented by the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) under the Community & Rural Development Department since 2016. DDU-GKY was implemented on Public Private Partnership mode with the Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) duly recognized by theGovernment as an intervention aimed at eliminating the challenges faced by the young potential workers of rural areas. Such challenges included lack of formal education and marketable skills which deprived the rural youth from competing in the modern job markets. Therefore, the rural youth once equipped with adequate skills of domain trades, soft skills andcomputer literacy, can even compete for global jobs, build their source of income and transform themselves into economically independent and globally relevant workforce. DDU-GKY emphasized on training of potential workers benchmarked to global standards accompanied by placement (domestic and foreign), retention on the job and career progression.
